JOHNNY "THE MAYOR" CALLAHAN #19
Center · Hartford Beauties · 1979-1991
The heart and soul of the Hartford Beauties for 12 seasons. Undrafted out of Boston College, Callahan walked into The Icebox in 1979 as a nobody and walked out in 1991 as the most beloved athlete in Hartford history. Wore the C from '81 until the lights went out. Known for pregame speeches that made grown men cry and a compete level that never had an off switch. Lost four teeth, broke his nose twice, played Game 6 of the '84 Finals with a broken hand he hid from Coach Murdoch. When asked why he never left for a bigger league, he said: "This is my city. That's
my building. Those are my people."
