Mikey Sloane talked from the opening faceoff to the final horn. He talked during warmups. He talked in the handshake line. He once chirped a referee so creatively that the ref started laughing and forgot to call the penalty.

He drew more penalties than anyone in ACHL history. Three opposing players were suspended for retaliating against him in '83-84 alone. He'd slash your ankles, call your girlfriend ugly, question your skating, and then smile at you from the penalty box while his team scored on the power play.

Murdoch called him "my secret weapon." The Courant called him "Hartford's most hated export." Opposing coaches tried everything: ignoring him, matching him, benching their enforcers to avoid the penalties. Nothing worked. You could not not react to Mikey
Sloane. That was his superpower.
