NATE "THE KID" KORHONEN #63

Nate Korhonen showed up to his first Beauties practice in October 1983 looking like he should've
been at homecoming, not a hockey rink. He was 19, baby-faced, 5'11", 170 lbs soaking wet, and had
the worst attempt at a mustache the locker room had ever seen. The team tried to make him grow one. It was pathetic. Knuckles took a photo. It's still
on the locker room wall.

He got lost driving to The Icebox three times in his first week. Splinters had to pick him up twice.
The vets hazed him for exactly one practice, watched him skate and stopped. The kid was special.

Finnish-American from Eveleth, Minnesota, with hands that didn't make sense for his age. He deked like the puck was glued to his blade. By Christmas he was on the first line with Callahan and Laser. By
February he had the third-most points on the team. By the playoffs he was playing 20 minutes a night and Murdoch was calling him "the future."

He was the last Beauty to make it out. Called up to the AHL in '87, played two seasons there, got a
cup of coffee in the show. But he always said his best years were in Hartford.
