He had 47 pregame rituals that had to be completed in exact order or he'd start over from the beginning. He once delayed a game by 11 minutes because someone moved his water bottle. He ate the same pregame meal for 9 straight years (grilled cheese, no crust, cut
diagonal, with exactly 7 pickle slices on the side). The trainers kept a written checklist.

He was also the best goalie in ACHL history. In the '84 Providence series he made 47 saves in Game 6 and said afterward: "Gerald told me where every shot was going." Nobody laughed. Nobody was sure he was joking.
